The University of Alberta (also known as U of A and U Alberta) is a public research university located in Edmonton and known worldwide as one of the top universities in Canada. Edmonton is a cultural, governmental and educational centre. It hosts a year-round slate of festivals, reflected in the nickname "Canada's Festival City".

Edmonton's river valley constitutes the longest stretch of connected urban parkland in North America, and Edmonton has the highest amount of parkland per capita of any Canadian city. There is an extensive multiuse trail system for bicycles and pedestrians throughout the city,

The address system is mostly numbered, with streets running south to north and avenues running east to west. Approximately one-third of people in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region use ETS per day. Edmonton is also expanding the LRT to Mill Woods (the southeast) by 2020 and to Lewis Farms (the west) thereafter using low floor technology. Edmonton is also a major air transportation gateway to northern Alberta and northern Canada.

There are several key areas of nightlife in the city of Edmonton. The most popular is the Whyte Avenue (82 Avenue) strip, located between 109 Street and 99 Street; it has the highest number of heritage buildings in Edmonton. The downtown core is also a new key area of nightlife and hosts many cultural venues: the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Royal Alberta Museum, the Edmonton symphony and the Maclab Theatre. The new Rogers Arena adds a multi-use indoor arena and is home for the NHLs Edmonton Oilers. These and a large number of new hi-rise buildings are changing the look and feel of our city center.

Take a trip back in time at Fort Edmonton Park, Canada l s largest heritage museum or visit the Alberta Parliament buildings. The North Saskatchewan River valley parks and trail system offers a great place for the outdoor enthusiasts.
